Bloggers Fart Too | The Out-takes

0

Sometimes I think people think everything is beautiful in blogger land, all photos are perfect, food always beautifully presented and hair is always glossy.  My photos are often a shambles, I sit around the house in my bra and knickers and nothing but nothing is beautifully lit at Thrifty Towers, it’s a basement flat Goddammit. I select the best of the bad bunch and sometimes life looks perfect but rest assured we bloggers have out-takes too. Blogging is a weird one. To aim for a semblance of professional behaviour we select the best pictures (even if they are crappy iPhone photos like mine have almost exclusively been for 18 months) which in turn gives readers a perception of our life being slightly more perfect than it might actually be. We snap Instagram photos at different angles again and again until they are ‘just so’…taking any element of ‘insta’ out of them.

This isn’t criticism, I can see how it happens. Why would we choose to only put out the badly lit photos or pick the most unflattering photo from the 50 500 we snap ? If you were whittling down your holiday photos from 34 to 6 you probably wouldn’t choose the hairy side-thigh shot from week 3 and instead opt for the lean, silky limbed snaps you posed for only 3 days after that £24 wax. I tend not to talk too much about the business of blogging here at A Thrifty Mrs but recently I’ve seen a few discussions on Twitter or on blogs about the issue of perfection. Some readers love to read about a glossy life, they don’t care that the blogger only shares the good side – it soothes them, like a dream world of escapism. Some readers however, consider only sharing the positive side of life hard to swallow and I suppose I can see both sides of the argument discussion but I’m yet to fully form an opinion. If I’m honest I only sat down to share these photos as a quick post because they had made me laugh when I put together another post (this giveaway post actually) but now I’ve started off on a ramble about blogging and I have no idea where it is going.

Ultimately I suppose it comes down to what the blogger is comfortable sharing with their readers. But I have to say as a reader, whilst I do love floating off into a beautifully lit, moody stare into the distance, shallow depth of field world, I also like it when I get to see the boo-boos, the real laughs and the out-takes. I hope you like my out-take side too. Although sometimes life and this blog feels a bit like one big out-take to me. I’d love to know what you think, not even necessarily about my blog. In general what kind of blogs do you like to read (not that I aim to change anything here at A Thrifty Mrs, I just think it’s an interesting topic)? Dreamy perfection, down and dirty realism, something in between or even something else altogether? If you’re a blogger or an Instagramer or a serial Facebook profile picture re-taker share an out-take today.
