We rarely have takeaways (although I will admit we do end up reaching for them when we fall off the meal planning bandwagon – it’s good to know your weaknesses) but when we do I always gasp at the price. We like to make double batches of this Jamie Oliver pizza dough recipe and have two small pizzas with salad and then make up lots of bases, roll them out and freeze them flat on baking trays. They’re easy to pull out and make those indecisive evenings just that little bit easier. Our toppings are usually based around cheese we always have stocked in the fridge and whatever veggies are littering the veg drawer. Mr Thrifty is a mozzarella fiend so if we spot it at a good price we stock up and pop it in the freezer. It really is a simple, easy and cheap alternative to takeaway.
That said, takeaway does have it’s place and I spotted this infographic over on Savoo which shows where you can pick up the cheapest pizza (boo hiss if you’re down south by the way). I know many folk like to splurge a little over bank holidays, so this should help you do as little damage as possible.
