My Favourite Christmas Films

0

Being cuddled up on the sofa has always been a huge part of winter to me, ever since I was a wee dot!
Christmas Eve has always been the best part of Christmas and the best part of the 24th of December has always been coming in cold from visiting friends, opening a parcel of new pyjamas and a fluffy blanket plus lots of mulled wine and a festive flick on the box.

Elf is a beautifully funny, modern Christmas classic which has made me laugh and splutter every time I’ve watched it. If I you haven’t seen it yet I urge you to get your hands on a copy and prepare to laugh. A lot.

Meet Me In St. Louis

What can I say about this film that you don’t already know? Christmas perfection. Judy Garland’s Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas makes me cry every single time!

Miracle On 34th Street

Both versions of this film are lovely. The black and white version reminds me of my time in America and it is magical. The modern version is very sweet and a lovely watch but it doesn’t have quite the same magical zing as the first. You can buy a of both versions for less than £6 if you fancy a real Christmas movie fest.

The Holiday

Ah the sets, the sets! The plot and Jude Law’s acting are as ropey as anything but the sets and English locations are Christmas gold.

Home Alone 1 and 2

Home Alone 1 and 2 are far superior to any of the series that came afterwards. These are the Christmas films of my childhood. I may have fancied that wee lad when I was about ten. Who doesn’t enjoy a glimpse of New York at Christmas?

The Santa Clause

Genius! This really isn’t the kind of film that is designed to pull at the heart strings but it somehow makes me cry every time. Tim Allen has to take on Santa’s job and slowly becomes the big man himself, raising questions with his ex-wife and work place about his suitability for his day job and his role as a father.
