For this Takapuna exterior painting project, the Master Painters Gold Award was won by the house painters. This magnificent home was extremely neglected and needed meticulous preparation to be brought back to life.

This Victorian-inspired home was a symbol of Takapuna and attracted much attention. We talked daily with neighbors who shared their stories about the home’s history. The house painters in auckland were overwhelmed by the positive feedback they received after we had completed and posted the before and after photos online.

HISTOLOGY

Built in 1890, it has been in the same family for 5 generations. The family sold the house because they ran out of heirs.

It was originally built for Caroline Green. Maud Moren, Frank Moren’s husband, was the original Pumphouse engineer. His daughter Hilda and Rudall Hayward inherited the property, and considered pioneers in NZ filmmaking.

The home was converted into separate apartments over the years, but it fell into neglect. The Victorian-style home retained its original grand front door, wood floors, bay windows and paneled ceilings. It also had sash windows.

CONDITION

This home was a shelter for many generations, but it had suffered from neglect over time. Beautiful sash windows were covered in flaking paint, which often revealed the original 128-year-old wood beneath. The original rough-sawn weatherboards were extremely resilient for their age and needed little attention. This was not the case for the weatherboards at the front. To ensure that the final finish lasts for many generations, these boards need to be stripped of paint and left.

PREPARATION

A great painting project starts with preparation. Every exterior painting job is meticulously completed by house painters who pride themselves on their attention to detail. The final coat is coated with the best paints to ensure maximum durability.

This home’s final finish is stunning. The Master Painters Gold Award has recognized the quality of our workmanship and gave life to Takapuna’s neglected Victorian icon. This project was truly an honor for the house painters.
