Lidl Trainers

Who is the most popular trainer? Lidl! You’ll need to run…

Lidl’s brand has become the unlikely contender for the year’s most popular trainer brand. However, the supermarket has apologized to its customers after several pairs were bulk-purchased and resold online by budding entrepreneurs.

The shoes, priced at PS12.99, were available in the middle aisle of Lidl.

Some sellers sell dozens of pairs for PS35 each, while others put together “packages” of socks, trainers and board shorts.

One customer claimed they visited five stores the day trainers went on sale, but they were left empty-handed because they were all out of stock.

Lidl stated that it looks into how many of these items were resold at twice or three times their retail price. Some users have even listed them for several hundred pounds. A Lidl spokesperson stated that they know the issue and that it is being investigated internally.

These trainers come in a chunky style and are available in brand colours (red, yellow, and blue) and are decorated with the Lidl logo, which is also found on the store’s shopping bags. Board shorts with the Lidl logo were sold at PS4.99, socks cost PS1.49, and bags were 99p.

Alfie Hayward, a West Midlands seller, said he bought just a few pairs at first, but then he went back to buy more when he realized how popular they would become.

Hayward stated that all the shoes were sold out within three days. I sold about 10 pairs of trainers per day. So, I had 30 pairs. The socks sold even faster, but that’s just the trainers.

The range might seem bold and tacky to the untrained eye, but it seems to have been inspired by the 90s nostalgia trend, which is especially popular among students and young people.

This isn’t the first venture into fashion for the cut-price retailer. Since 2014, it has been selling unbranded clothing. Last year, it tried its best at branded fashion with its popular Christmas jumper featuring the Lidl logo.

The German discount retailer did not say why the trainers were so popular or if plans are in place to bring the brand clothing back.
