Are Command Strips Any Good

0

Are Command Strips any good? Hm, I have to say no. You have all the free will in the world and this is my opinion but it would be my recommendation not to waste your money on these things. Command Strips and Hooks are designed to allow you to hang up pictures and other bits and bobs with their sticky strips. The selling point to these is they claim they can be removed without signs of the strips ever having been there. This sounded great to me as we live in a rented place with really thick walls that need some serious drill work for hooks to go in. I’ve used 3 different versions of these on 3 different surfaces and I’m not impressed, I’d rather invest all of my savings in a can of tuna and then open it and place it in front of my fish addicted dog.

As useless as a chocolate radiator. I followed the instructions to the letter but these still didn’t work. They’re designed to hold up to 3lb and I wanted to use them to store a long feather duster and a bag of carrier bags off the floor on the inside of a cupboard door. Each weighed in at around half the limit so it wasn’t a weight issue which caused them both to fall off the door, taking most of the paint work with it within 3 days. I was worried I’d missed a step and done something wrong so I got Mr Thrifty to try again with the spare hooks, he is known for following instructions to the letter and never skipping a step but still these failed again within a couple of days.

I’d rather eat my own ears with chopsticks than use these again. I gave these a whirl with a very light cork notice board (imagine weighing a notice board, you know you’ve lost it at that point) which I intended to only display photos and the odd post it note. It fell down within 24 hours in the middle of the night, smashing my landline phone (retro, huh?) and very, very nearly sending my DSLR camera flying across the room – thankfully it landed on my cushion lined chair and is fine. They didn’t damage the paint job too much but there are definitely signs the strips have been there. These are the best of a bad bunch. We have them inside cupboards to hold keys and tea towels but I doubt they’d be able to hold anything of any real weight as heavier tea towels (although well below the 1/2lb limit) are a no go. No better than any sticky pad hook you can buy in packs of 20 from pound shops or supermarkets.
