Different types of wind mitigation

There are many types of wind mitigation options that you can put in your home. It is important to be aware of all options when considering wind mitigation. These are some features you should consider, whether you are currently in the process of building or looking to add a new room to your home.

  • Roof Material: Choose a stronger material to withstand strong winds if you’re currently building your house or replacing it. Choose a component with a 110-mph wind resistance and meets ASTM D3161 class F standards.
  • Roof-to Wall Attachments: These attachments will give your roof truss maximum protection against wind uplift. Choose a double-sided metal connector wrap that has three or more nails per side.
  • Roof Deck Material: You cannot add this feature if you are either building your first roof or replacing an existing one. Ask your builder for plywood panels 5/8 inches in thickness that are attached with 10-d nails. This will greatly improve wind mitigation.
