Like I mentioned yesterday we really scored with the weather when we visited Whitby. No need for a jacket, just a packed lunch slung in bags over our shoulders, a floaty dress, the dog along with his exclusive celeb water supply and a five minute amble down the hillside to the beach for a whole day of mooching and just ‘being’.Whitby’s West Cliff beach is beautiful, squeaky clean and a prime place to take in amazing views. When we visit Whitby we tend to go in the opposite direction so it was lovely to hang out on West Cliff beach and take time out from the world. For most of the day the beach was all but empty and the sound of the sea, although calm was deafening at points.
We’d taken Jarvis to a beach before but the tide had never been far enough in for him to experience lapping waves. It was hilarious to watch him creep up to the water, then quickly run away as the waves came crashing toward him. Then he’d creep back in for a sniff of the water before performing his running away sequence all over again. He even let out a few barks at the waves and the occasional one in the direction of boats out to sea which dared to cross the horizon on his time. How dare they, huh? After walking a good way along the beach, we plonked ourselves down on some rocks whilst the dog played in the rock pools and ate a lunch of bread, cheese and onion marmalade before sending Mr Thrifty off to a cafe to pick up ice creams which are a legal requirement when visiting any British beach.Ice creams scoffed and it was time to climb the hill back into the real world for a look around some shops and gawp at folk all dressed up in pirate costume. Arrr Whitby be an awesome place.
