Moira Rose’s Red Lips Make her Stand Out on Schitt’s Creek
It wasn’t long before Schitt’s Creek was available on Netflix. This came two years after the Canadian show’s original airing. It’s all thanks to its cast, which includes Eugene Levy, a comedy heavyweight, as Johnny Rose, his IRL child Dan Levy, who is also the show’s writer and producer, and Annie Murphy, as Alexis, the socialite sister and island-hopping socialite who regularly dates men named Stavros.
However, as shining as all Schitt’s Creek’s stars are, Moira (Catherine O’Hara), the Rose family’s matriarch, has captured the attention of eager viewers with GIF-able quotations and a rotating selection of wigs. Moira Rose, the instantly-recognizable Moira Rose, is a puzzle of moving pieces, with bizarre accents and an avant-garde outfit that stands out in small town Schitt’s Creek, where her family had to move after losing their fortune.
Moira’s Signature Look – With A Side Of Denialism
Bromhead and O’Hara had read the Schitt’s Creek script. They then sat down to talk about: Moira Rose. Bromhead claims that O’Hara and Bromhead were immediately at ease with the idea that they would be drawing inspiration from Moira’s rich and well-travelled life. Bromhead says that Moira would take inspiration from her past experiences. Consider, for instance, the character’s trademark smoky eyes. “If she had seen women in Morocco with smoky eyeliner and smoky eyes, she would have gotten the inspiration to create her own look.”
Moira might get beauty inspiration from magpies, but no one inspires her. Twitter may have you believe that Madonna did not inspire Moira. However, O’Hara & Bromhead have been pleasantly surprised by the similarities. Bromhead confirmed that one person did not design Moira. She is simply unique.
O’Hara, Bromhead and Ana Sorys agreed that Moira’s wig du jour was the only thing they should alter. Bromhead says that the wigs gave Moira a lot of options to express herself.
Bromhead tells us she was wearing red lipstick while she and O’Hara discussed her character. She recalls that Catherine suggested Moira use red lipstick. “I agreed 100% because it is such a strong colour, and it truly is a signature.” “We made the conscious decision that Moira would continue to wear red lipstick to preserve her old life. It is also how she keeps her core identity.
Candice Ornstein is the head of the makeup department for Schitt’s Creek. She explains that the small town where the show is set was designed to feel and look bleak compared to the Roses. Ornstein says there is a clear juxtaposition between Schitt’s Creek residents and the Roses. “This family arrives, and it’s the largest shift these townpeople will ever experience in such an environment. The Roses are, in a way, the colour of Schitts Creek.
