Maggots are disgusting little fly larvae that are not something anyone wants to live with. Maggots can be found in carpets due to pet accidents or food spillage. Maggots can be removed but you should not set your carpet ablaze. To avoid damaging the carpet, you will need to be careful when cleaning. You can ruin your rug by using bleach, hydrogen peroxide, and other household maggot killers. To safely get rid of your unwanted guests, you can use boric acid and a vacuum for steam cleaning rug.
Step 1: Locate the Attractant
To determine the source of the infestation, take a look at your carpet carefully. After you’ve eliminated the maggots, remove any attractants. They may return if you don’t.
Step 2: Get rid of the Maggots
Sprinkle boric Acid powder all over your carpet. You can use a brush or a broom to push it into the carpet fibers. Boric acid crystals have rough edges that can cut into maggots and kill them.
Step 3: Vacuum
To remove dead maggots from your carpet, vacuum it thoroughly. Apply more boric acid to your carpet and vacuum it once again if you see maggots. After you are done, take out the bag from your vacuum cleaner and wrap it tightly in plastic bags. Then, dispose of the bag in an outside trash can. To ensure that the maggots are dead, spray bleach on the vacuum cleaner’s canister. Use bleach to clean your vacuum cleaner thoroughly and rinse it off.
Step 4: Steam Clean
You can kill any maggots that you missed and remove the stain which is attracting flies by steam-cleaning your carpet. You can either flush the water out of your toilet or dispose it off outside using the steamer. You can rent a steamer from most grocery shops if you don’t have one.
