Style your wardrobe with confidence by following our fashion tips.
1. Work your capsule wardrobe. Your capsule wardrobe is the key to a stylish and comfortable look. Make sure your wardrobe is full of reliable staples, such as a little black dress that you can wear every day, jeans that are the perfect fit, a classic jacket, T-shirts or button-downs with neutral colors and a leather jacket. The key to looking stylish is to invest in a mix-and match collection of basics.
2. Fit your clothes perfectly. Hiring a tailor is a great way to make any piece of clothing look stunning. Clothing that is tailored not only looks more polished but also feels better. Dresses and pants that drag or bunch awkwardly will not make you look stylish. You can play around with the over- or under-sized pieces in your capsule wardrobe to make it feel fashionable and not sloppy.
3. Balance proportions. It is important to balance proportions by styling your outfits in a way that creates an aesthetic harmony. You can achieve this by wearing clothes that fit your body shape. If you’re going to wear oversized clothing or clothes with unusual shapes, keep the rest of your look fitted. Try pairing a crop top tight with jeans with wide legs, or a top with puff shoulders with straight-leg trousers.
4. Find your own personal style. You can start by creating a moodboard. Personal style is an adventure. You never know what you will find in the changing room until you try it on. You shouldn’t let the categories of “menswear”, “womenswear”, or “other” dictate your shopping. Play around with shapes and colors to see what suits your body.
5. Learn how to shop better. You can avoid stuffing your closet with items that you will never wear by learning how to shop. Style will come naturally when you have a wardrobe full of items that you love.
6. Add a belt. Add a belt. It’s one of the easiest and quickest ways to transform any outfit. This is a great way to balance out an outfit that might otherwise not work, such as a long cashmere cardigan and a billowy midi-skirt.
7. Play with color. Start with one piece of color and the rest will be neutral. You’ll discover which color combinations suit your style as you become more familiar with colors. Look at a colorwheel for ideas.
8. Mix textures and patterns. It’s time to stop matching your bag and shoes. Clashing textures and patterns make a bold statement. Start with neutral textures and patterns, such as stripes, and fabrics like knits and leather. Then, add sequins or paisleys to small items (such as a scarf, tie or clutch), until you find what you like.
