In my opinion the post Christmas sales rise up and surpass every sale across the year, at least for the following items. It’s a rare occasion I’ll buy much for Christmas after January has passed.
12 THINGS I ALWAYS BUY IN THE POST CHRISTMAS SALES
1. Wrapping paper
I’ll be damned if I’m paying through the nose for festive gift wrap! Nope, I’m happy to buy it after Christmas at a fraction of the original price and stash away.
I don’t think I’ve ever bought full price gift cards. I’m always sure to find a bargain in supermarkets and charity shops come the new year.
See above. In fact I picked up so many in Sainbsury’s for 6p a pack 3-4 years ago that I’ve still got another couple of years worth.
January is the best time of year to pick up sticky tape of any kind. The Christmas special packs are reduced to mere pence, so I make sure to stock up on enough to last me a couple of years when I see a great deal.
Gift sets face hefty reduction in the sales, as do books, clothes and DVDs. I stock up not only for Christmas gifts but also for upcoming birthdays too.
Candles seem to drop three quarters off their price once Christmas passes, so I keep my stash well stocked with not only scented candles but regular candles and tea lights.
7. Advent calendars with large gifts
Luxury advent calendars have become somewhat of a craze in recent years and their regular prices are sky high! I opt to pick these up in the sales (often less than 1/4 of their pre-Christmas price), take out the gifts and repackage as solo gifts or smaller bundles or hampers.
I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price for a packet of Christmas crackers apart from when I found 39p crackers last year. If you have the space for the bulky packaging, stock up on them in the sales.
I’m a decoration fiend, it’s a weak point I’m afraid. However I own and control this weak point by only allowing myself to indulge in the sales and even then I’m incredibly exacting as to what can come home with me.
10. Beauty gift sets
The majority of my bathing and beauty needs are met by items from cut price beauty gift sets. Many are reduced to the price of a full size product however the gift set can contain 5-6 products.
I kit out my knockers and Mr Thrifty’s knackers in the post Christmas sale as this has worked out best for prices over the years. I’ve picked up many a £40 bra for around £12 and packs of boxers for £3-4!
I don’t really care if I have Father Christmas on my jim jams come March, all I care about is the fact I’ve got some nice, clean pyjamas on and they cost me less than half price.
