Hello, hello, this is the second of two blog posts today, stop by and read my News post once you’ve finished here.
Alright, alright the title of this book doesn’t sound the most thrilling and m’friend I have no pretty pictures to share with you from this book but, but, but I liked it and found it an interesting read.
I was sent a copy of Supermarket Shoppology by the publishers back in December and for a while it sat next to my bed like an unread school textbook whilst I read through prettier books. Gulping each time I saw it, just the title took me back to the AS Sociology and Psychology lessons I loathed and dropped at the first possible passing. However the book wasn’t as dry and mealy-mouthed as I imagined it would be, it held some interesting insights.
Most of us need to visit a supermarket sooner or later, even if we do our best to avoid them, so it’s both interesting and helpful to know how our minds work once inside them and how the supermarkets go about using that knowledge to get us to part with more of our hard earned cash.
I particularly enjoyed the way in which Adcock, the author, presents us with strategies to become ‘less emotional and more objective (as we) travel along any particular ‘path to purchase.’ Arming us with techniques to avoid impulse and irrational purchases which I think will be useful in more arenas than just supermarket shopping. The techniques and information are quite a revelation, not just in human psychology but in business and money saving.
