After this post about multi purpose furniture I was surprised that the subject I was emailed and asked about most was how I store and organise cables, wires and chargers. It can be tricky to work out which is which and they often get tangled, I swear if someone invents a marketable system they’ll make a fortune. If you have even just two items of modern day technological equipment you’ll be over run with wires, cables and chargers. I hate the tangled mes. Here is how I do it. I’ve employed this technique since I was at university, where cables and chargers seemed to breed. As soon as we get the item home we grab the label maker.
Count out the amount of cables and chargers and make that number of labels baring the name of the item ‘Sony Camera’ ‘Blackberry’ or ‘iPod Touch’ for instance. Wrap a label around each wire, unless there is an obviously chunky, flat space to add it and add one to the plug part of the device charger. The next trick is to have lots of lovely zip lock type bags knocking around. We got these ones from Ikea and they come in a variety of sizes so they’re pretty handy. We have one bag for all phone chargers (we both have two each, one for work and one for ‘life’), one for camera chargers and another for device to computer leads. All of the bags are of course well marked too. They are all popped into a drawer in our TV unit come cocktail cabinet come storage centre which you can see in yesterday’s post by clicking here.
