I saw the price of kettle descaler in the supermarket the other day and it made my eye twitch. Here’s a cheap and easy way to descale your kettle.
How To Descale Your Kettle
If it’s fairly bad
1. Grab a bottle of vinegar (malt or white, it doesn’t matter) and pour it into the kettle so it covers the element and about an inch extra (this exact amount depends on the size, type and model of your kettle) and leave for an hour.
2. Fill up (to a couple of inches below MAX line) with water and boil – ensure the ratio of water to vinegar is at the very least slightly more in favour of water.
3. Empty and rinse out with clean water. You may need to rinse the kettle out more than once.
1. Fill your kettle to just below the MAX line with water.
2. Add 3 tbsp of vinegar.
3. Boil kettle as normal.
4. Rinse and boil again.
