It’s no secret meat is an expensive food item but have you asked yourself ‘how often do I eat meat?’ It’s a question worth asking if you’re struggling with your food budget. Here at Thrifty Towers we are confirmed meat lovers but in a bid keep our food costs low we don’t eat meat for every meal and for that matter we don’t even eat meat everyday.
We currently eat meat or fish 2-3 evenings a week and for 1-2 lunches (leftovers from evening meals) per week. Anymore than this and we find our grocery bill starts to take a big leap upwards. Even when we do eat meat based meals we’ll often bulk them out with lentils or beans so we can use one cut of meat between two people. Eating this way has dropped the amount we pay per weekly shop by well over £25! Maybe I’ll share some recipes along with tips and tricks if you’d like?
I’d love to know how often you eat meat and how you, your partner or your family feel about the prospect of cutting back or even cutting it out altogether in a bid to save money.
