Whilst we were in Huddersfield (read about our weekend away we drove a few short miles to Holmfirth. I didn’t know much about Holmfirth before we arrived, apart from it’s where was filmed but we have friends living in the town so it was time to explore. Let me start with a scene from the end of the day – there I was stood in the street smiling at a window. An estate agent’s window. Yup I was standing there, gazing at houses and giving the mathematics portion of my brain a stretch. I bloody loved this place and even though I actually want to move to the coast and Holmfirth is pretty much as far away as you can get from the coast, I’d happily pack up my crap lovely belongings and head east of here to West Yorkshire. Holmfirth is awesome.
We drove into Holmfirth, parked up (10p for 12 hours…some how?!), met our friends and set off on a stroll. One street down and I was in lust, 3 more streets and it was love. Holmfirth is packed to the rafters with charity shops, curiosity shops, craft shops (what other c-shops are there….without being rude?) oh yes a chocolate shop and lots of chip shops. We poked around the shops for hours, ate chips by the river and strolled around parks. We chatted to locals (friendliest people in the world) who told of a great. So we drove out the hilly road and ate in a lovely pub and drank beer until driving was no longer appropriate and taxis were our friend. We returned the next day for a breakfast picnic in the park and watched our Yorkshire Terrier truly terrorise Yorkshire. Holmfirth is truly beautiful, sitting in the Holme Valley just a few short miles from Huddersfield, it is somewhere I really recommend visiting. Just lift your head and look up to see beauty surrounding you at every turn. Lush green fields, hill after hill, winding roads, cobbled streets, beautiful parks, gorgeous buildings. Holmfirth is a must visit. Oh yeah and nearby villages include UpperThong, (Paul) Scholes, Totties and Washpit, LOLs for all the family. Apart from Jarvis, he just barked.
