This shade is Revlon's Powder Puff (008) and came in a pack of two nail varnishes so essentially it only set me back 50p. It's a matte polish which put me off a little to start with because I've only every tried dark matte nail polishes and they made my fingers look like I'd stapled cheap carrier bags to them. This light colour, however seems to suit the matte finish a little better. It took an age to dry and dented and smudged like nothing I've ever tried before. I've never known a nail polish like it! I had to wait a full 30 minutes (otherwise the polish ran off my nails) before I could paint the second coat which was a waste of my time and led to sweary words flying in the direction on an inanimate object. When the first coat was on I thought it would need at least two more to achieve any kind of opacity whatsoever (which was probably part of my frustration) but it turned out the second coat was enough and for some reason it dried almost instantly - however it did smudge something chronic.
Powder Puff has a hint of blue-violet shimmer to it and looks really nice when it catches the light but I doubt I'll ever really try wearing it out and about on its own - I put a silver-y glitter over the top after I took these photos. It works really well as a base and vehicle for other shades and colours and if I was the nail art type I'd be all over it like Katie Price on men with well defined stomach muscles.
I'd struggle to use this on a regular basis just because the application is a total and utter nightmare.
Keep your eyes peeled for Poundshop polishes, there are some interesting and fun shades to be found.
TTFN,
P.S. Which nail polish are you wearing today?

what was the other colour in the set?
ReplyDeletei'm wearing this polish - http://cloudsandcuticleoil.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/notd-kiko-khaki.html it's really easy to apply, i love the colour and it was so cheap, but the band isn't available in the uk - boo hiss!
xx
The other colour was a dark red, I can't track it down to find the name. They don't seem to match them up with any rhyme or reason.
DeleteI'm currently wearing raspberry by barry m. I found a matte red colour from revlon in poundland the other day and it applys really easily xo

I have got Revlon's Ruby Ribbon (also from Poundland and also matte), it's a dark burgundy-ish colour with a tiny bit of shimmer in it.
ReplyDeleteFor the first 3-4 times I hated it, it didn't turned out how I would liked it.
And suddenly (I think I had it for a few months then) tried it again and it was fabulous! It looked like I had a really posh piece of soft fabric applied on my nails. I love it now:)
2 coats are enough and it dries like my other Revlon nailvarnishes & no smudging!!!
I think the reason for the change could be that the polish became a little bit thicker over the months and changed its consistency:)
So give it a few more goes!:)
Yes this one is VERY runny. I think I'll try it again in a few months in the hope that the consistency will change.
DeleteI'm also wearing a poundland polish. A purple one from their chit chat range :)
ReplyDeleteShame about the application, I tend to find matte nail polish's dry quickly, so strange this one doesn't xxx
ReplyDeleteI think someone once told me that you could make your own custom nail polishe colours by putting eyeshadows into clear nail polish. I might give that a whirl soon too!
ReplyDeleteYep, I've tried it and it is really easy & fun.
Deletei really like the look of that one shame about the application problems :(
ReplyDeleteiv yet to try any revlon nail varnishes now there appearing in poundland i definitely will!
oohh and to a simple thing you can works ace :D i now keep all of my empty nail varnish pots to make up my own with old eyeshadow :) x
I had no idea you could get so much from Poundland. I will be having a look in my local sometime soon me thinks x
ReplyDeleteI got a black Revlon nail varnish from Poundland and had the same problem...it looked like I had stuck my fingers in a bucket of tar! I'll stick to my equally cheap black from Primark.
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with the black Revlon varnish from Poundland...it looked like I had stuck my fingers in a bucket of tar! I'll stick to my black from Primark for now.
ReplyDeleteOh no, bin bag fingers!
DeleteLovely colour! I'm wearing my current favourite, Denim by Barry M. I don't usually do blue nail varnish but is really subtle sparkly shade.
ReplyDeleteChina Glaze's "Fuschia" with Rimmel "Disco Ball" over it. Very fun, very bright, very sparkly, very mad! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting polish! I'd be intrigued to see the one that came with it :)

Again, heading down to poundland!x
ReplyDeleteSTILA IN POUNDLAND? WHAAAT!! Shame about this polish though :/

I hope it's only the matte ones that are so hard to apply- I have quite a collection of the regular-finish Revlon nail polishes and they're the best nail polishes that I've ever tried. Could you have just gotten a bad one, or is Poundland more reliable than that? Most dollar stores where I live can be kind of iffy when it comes to beauty products.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a problem with a Revlon nail polish - I'm pretty sure it is just a bad apple, which could happen if I bought it anywhere not just Poundland.
DeleteI think pound shops are similar to dollar stores in that the beauty stock tends to be discountinued stock or items which are being rebranded.
Yeah I have fallen out with Revlon as it stays tacky for ages! I did get some china glaze out of sally for a pound a bottle. I am wearing red passion by max factor nailfinity off a buyer from ebay for 99p for 5 mini bottles. I have got Sally Hansen Insta-dry which was 99p a bottle and that is really good!!! Allie
ReplyDeleteI have this polish and it is a pain. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteI have this very polish and it is a pain. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of this, but I am super impatient with waiting for nail varnish to dry! At least you didn't have to pay a lot to find that out though :) xx
