Penny Pinching Polish

14/07/2012

It turns out I'm a blue nail varnish fan, which I didn't know. I discovered recently when having a clean out I have more blue nail varnish than any other colour - 18 blue nail varnishes suggests a problem doesn't it? Despite that I couldn't resist this bright blue for £1 from Asda. I've never really tried Asda nail polishes but I've heard good things about them. This is just the regular line from George at Asda in the colour 'Boom' and I found it in the make up section of a larger store.

blue asda nail polish

At the time of taking this photograph I'd been wearing this nail polish, after applying it in the back of the car (you can so tell) on the way to visit a friend (1 light coat over a Sally Hansen base coat),  for 2 days and there's barely a chip or dent which is more than a tad pleasing for someone who chips nail polish faster than...umm...something really fast. What's really fast? Ummm that running man...errrr.

Anyway, I like it. I love, love, love the colour, it wears well and I picked it up for a mere pound. Aces.

P.S. What nail polish are you wearing today?

  5. I'm also a blue lover, and am wearing navy by Barry M, which is GORGEOUS, perfect midnight blue. You will find your nail varnish chips a lot less if you do a topcoat. Seche Vite is amazing - I buy it on eBay. It also dries your nail varnish really really quickly - in a 20 minute train journey I did base coat, two coats of polish and seche vite, and it was dry enough not to smudge when I got off. (although admittedly not ultra bone dry, I could have messed it up if I'd scraped my nails against my keys for example. But still pretty bloody good.)

  12. Nice colour. I'm wearing 17 Supreme Shine in Wave - a lovely not-too-bright turquoise. I'm currently on the hunt for a nice orange-red within my £5 budget but am not having much luck, so if you or any other commenter has any suggestions, I'm all ears

  13. That's lovely, I'm in love with blue polish at the minute. I've never tried any George polish but it looks really good for the price! I'm wearing Wet n Wild Buffy the Violet Slayer on one hand and Barry M Blue Moon on the other (taking photos for blog but didn't want to change both hands!)

  14. Haven't tried these will pick some up next time I go to asda. My favourite nail varnish brand is Technic I buy them from Bodycare they're also only a pound or sometimes cheaper I got some on a 3 for 2 they hardly ever chip just wear down at the very tip of your nail after 4/5 days which can easily be touched up with another coat as they're still really smooth. I have a big collection of more expensive brands which have totally gone unloved since I discovered Technic x

  18. Mind you I have Coty sixty seconds which I got out of the 99 p shop and it is no 16, which is like a coral colour and is very nice. Wilko do a brand called miss beauty and they do 3 for 2 pound. I wear them for woek. I can only afford no 7 when it is on offer. I also like no 17, miss sporty, NYC and sinful colors which is also out of the 99p shop. At the moment I think I have lots and I mean lots of lots of nail polish. Last count 100 bottles!!!
My best buy was a brand new bottle of Chanel Vernis nail polish for 50p out of the charity shop!!! but I do love funky colours!!!

  22. I'm loving the Barry M magnetic range at the moment! Little bit more pricey than you £1 George one, but creates and amazing effect on your nails! And at the moment they have buy one get on half price in Superdrug, the only flaw I would say is that they only have four colours at present and they are all dark colours!

    Keep up the good work

  24. I like the blue colour. It's pretty. Thanks for sharing, I do sometimes wonder if cheap polish is actually worth it. But I think it might be, after your recommendations.

  25. I couldn't resist this one either. Great polishes for £1. I also got the Boots no. 7 fast dry topcoat recently with one of the £5 vouchers and its fantastic. I slightly ruined my frugalism by then buying an Essie polish for about eight quid. Oops.
