I've been greeted by shelf upon shelf of ugly hedgehog ornaments which really don't float my boat. It has been frustrating for a seasoned charity shop shopper but I suppose these lulls happen to the best of us.
Over the weekend we had to make our way down south for a family emergency but whilst down there I managed to stop in at a couple of charity shops to see what da sarf of the country could offer me. Not a huge lot in the way of clothes unless I fancied a stained Asda dress for £9 however I did manage to pick up the following.

This lovely chair was £3 and although tatty, once covered it will be a perfect little place to squirrel myself away with a good book. What has managed to stay inside the chair is nice and comfy and apart from the obvious tatty-ness it is condition. So we borrowed a trailer and dragged that home with us.

I also picked up this beautifully Mad-Men-chic vintage marble lighter for a pound. I previously had a beautiful one which was one of my first charity shop finds after I got married. I sold it when we moved house and I've regretted it since so I was pleased to find such a cracker waiting for me on the shelves of the hospice shop.

And the last piece I found was this beautiful seascape painting which I think will look just great in our bathroom because it is the law that into every bathroom a bit of seaside-y-ness must come.
Have you been having a charity shop dry patch or are you hoarding all the goodies down at your end of the country?
TTFN,

OK so after this post you totally need this photo of my pet hedgehog in your life :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/kerryw/7037852363/in/set-72157629306584997
ReplyDeleteBeen too skint, even for chazzer shopping. Poundland has kept me surprisingly shopped up. Cheadle is usually great for off the wall items. I must do a post on my favourite things. Thanks for the inspiration, shall linkback and credit of course. Why don't we all organise a big chazzer shop swap? Bring our booty we may have gone off, and swap it up. Giving it back to chazzer shops may be kinder, but often, it's redistributed, and the top shop sget the good stuff. Ooh, Northern Moor has an amazing hospice type shop and sells clothes for 20p and glasses for 10p, stuff like that

THREEE POUNDS??? FOR A CHAIR????? THE KIND OF CHAIR I HAVE BEEN AFTER FOR A LOOOOOONG TIME!! YOU CAME DARN SARF AND STOLE IT FROM ME!!!!
ReplyDelete*drama over*
Top score on the chair! Bit of fixing and it will be as good as new.
YOU STOLE IT FROM MEEEEEEEEEEEE!
That chair is gorgeousness!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your chair! Bargain at £3. With a bit of upholstering it will be a perfect reading spot.
ReplyDeleteI've actually had amazing charity shop luck recently. A little stash of Grindley peach petalware for 60p. I possibly hyperventilated with excitement at the till.
I did it! http://maybelatorandthemachine.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/charity-shop-treasure.html is link..feel free not to publish comment, is more for you anyway so you can see what you're linked on x
ReplyDeleteCherry tree shops are not great at the mo. I am searching of an almost daily basis. A vintage kaleidoscope is all I can muster at the moment. Bad times.
ReplyDeleteHope the family emergency is sorted and that you didn't come home with a load of hedgehog tat.

i think you can cover up the small part of the arm chair. It will still look good on it.
ReplyDelete3lin
well, for three quid you couldn't say no. Looking forward to seeing how you tart it up.
ReplyDeletelove that painting.

These are some lovely finds. Unfortunately all the charity shops near me seem to be less about second hand thrify finds, but items made and sold specifically for charity shops, in the bid to make some extra money! xo
ReplyDeleteI haven't managed to get to the chazza with all my donations recently. Grrr. I have found a few good bits near me, not in every shop, you have to know where to look...
ReplyDeleteOur local shops always seem to be full of rubbish- clothes that are bobbled or stained or just plain dirty, and to make matters worse, the 2 in my town aren't accepting donations atm? What the actual hell? I has a pile of clothes- new or worn once, freshly laundered and ready to go, and they wouldn't take them, so mum and I are having to eBay or thrown them out (which I refuse to do).
ReplyDeleteThe chair looks destined for amazingness, can't wait to see what you do with it, hope all is resolved with your family, and once again, my sincerest apologies if I offended or upset you last week with my off hand comment. I'm so sorry for yours and Mr Thrifty's loss.
Ive had a reasonably good week or 2 at the charity shops ...got some cropped denim trousers, white linen trousers, new thong sandals, pair of trainers and a new vest top with ruffled neckline ......all together under £10!!.
ReplyDeleteCharity shops are pretty crapulous ATM here in Essex - I've not found anything really good for a-g-e-s!! Fabbo bargain with the chair, can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteI reckon hedgehogs are the logical next woodland kitsch step which will become popular in blogland now we've done owls and deer to death, you could be onto a winner here! You have a popular blog, start the hedgehog revolution!
ReplyDeleteI've not found much at all lately, aside from my best recent find Timothy - an enormous wicker picnic hamper. I'm very pleased with him and have been having Famous Five fantasies since I bought it.
Love the lighter for a pound, glad it found you.
I absolutely agree! In fact I mentioned this in my most recent blog post, perhaps you are right and because of the economic climate people are donating less and trying to sell more, because I haven't found anything worth talking about for months! I have to admit I'm a bit of a charity shop addict, and I used to find bargains all the time..not anymore sadly. I either find nothing at all, or everything is SO overpriced it drives me crazy.
ReplyDeleteI do LOVE your chair though, proof that there are still some great buys out there somewhere! xx
Can't wait to see the revamped chair but sad times for the homeless hedgehogs left on the shelf, looks like someone has had a house clearance or something. xx
ReplyDeleteSeeing this post reminded me I went into the charity shops in town today and promptly forgot I got something. I've just had a ferret in my bag (not the animal kind) and found a thimble case for a pound which I shall be fixing up and putting other things in that are not thimbles - like christmas things (not unlike this previous one I made: http://creativeflourishes.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/simple-last-minute-decoration.html ) and a 50p map book of New York 'cos I WILL go there someday! ☺
ReplyDeleteI've found lately that I can still find plenty of clothing at charity stores, but there is a decided lack of furniture being donated to the ones I frequent. It annoys me because I'm actually in need of quite a bit of furniture at the moment - I guess people are trying to sell these things more at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the chair is destined for amazingness so please show us just how amazing you've made it when you're done! x

ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to say I own a hedgehog exactly like the one in the blue dungarees! *Hangs head in shame*
ReplyDeleteLove the chair and think it was a bargain at £3!
ReplyDeleteI am in Devon and my husband swears that the charity shop prices rocket in the summer when there are visitors everywhere!
The charity shops in Hale and Altrincham seem ok at the moment if you fancy a jaunt
