After your bath don't waste the water, make it go as far as possible...every penny counts when it comes to living a stylish and fun life for mere pounds.
Here are some money saving bath water ideas
- Get someone to hop in after you or even bathe with your partner - you might need a larger bath though if your husband is 6ft 2 like Mr Thrifty.
- Leave the water in the bath after you get out. The warmth will heat your house for a little while.
- Use it to flush your toilet. After a bath I flush my toilet with half a bucket of water which saves up to 3 gallons of water.
- Clean out smelly outside drains by throwing 3 tbsp of borax down your drain followed by a bucket of your bath water.
- Water your plants, grass and trees, most of them don't mind a bit of soap or even your leg hair.
- If you're having a quick shower (i.e. only using a small amount of water) and you have a shower over the bath - pop the plug in during your shower and use the collected water for any of the tips above.
TTFN,
P.S. Do you/could you/would you share bath water with someone else?

yep. growing up as one of four kids, we always had to share bathwater, so it's not a big deal in this house now.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips. particularly the reusing of cold bathwater for other things, will definitely be using those.
x
I'd happily share bath water...but only if I got to go first! xx
ReplyDeletep.s unless someone wees in the bath. then not on your life!
ReplyDeleteI am not a bath fan - i love the IDEA of a bath - but I get bored easily and then get out. I always pop the plug in when having a shower though - mainly to soak my feet and make them go wrinkly. Schexy.
ReplyDeleteEwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. No.
ReplyDeleteThis seemed more acceptable as a child and although I love saving money I dont think I could get in after my hubby it would be like bathing in his dirt, but saying that we occassionally share a bath together go figure? :-/ I do try to keep water to a minimum though x
ReplyDeleteI must say I'm not a bath person, showers are the way to go for me. But if I were to have a bath there's no way I'd use someone else's bath water, ewww!!
ReplyDeleteI often share a bath with Mr G. I usually have it first as I like a hot bath. Once its cooled sufficiently we swap. Occasionally we share one and this means we have to use a lot less water! Romantic too ;)
ReplyDeleteDH and I shower but DD baths. Only in a little water though as she is so small. I think I'll try your thrifty water saving tips for her bath water actually. Especially since summer is coming and the plants will need a lot more water. Not only is it kinder to the planets but saves on my bills too!
ReplyDeleteI keep a bucket in the bathroom and fill it with the cold water that comes out of the shower head for (in my house) a full minute before it's warm enough to step into. It usually equals 2 loo flushes, so soon adds up! Good bath tips :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger me my 2 brothers and sister would all share the same bath or water, I remember we used to fit over who had to sit at the plug end haha xxx
ReplyDeleteThat was me and my brother too!!
DeleteMy boyfriend got int he bath with me the other day just for larks really (nothing maughty!) as he usually sits by the bath and talks to me when I bathe. I got out seconds later. It's just too uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd share a bath but I wouldn't get in one after somebody as it would be cold and probably not very clean!
ReplyDeletescousebrows
Can we see your legs in the bath?
ReplyDeleteI am sorry if this publishes twice the comment form seems corrupt.
I would share a bath if my other half didn't come home so flippin' filthy dirty everyday!
ReplyDeleteShare a bath with Mr 'StraightLace' English Attic? He'd run a mile!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've definitely been cutting down on baths even though we don't have a water meter. Although I've never been tempted to reuse the water for watering plants because of the soap content. Maybe now I should!
ReplyDeleteWe used to share bathwater when I was a kid, but I'd feel a bit weird about it now. My boyfriend got in the bath after I had one once, and I felt strange knowing he was bathing in my leghair shavings... Gross. x
ReplyDeleteWe share the bath water,on the rare occasions we have one,but I always have mine before Mr B of course! He usually ends up with more water on the floor than in the bath...why do men do this? :0)
ReplyDeleteI used to share bath water with my brother as a child and my kids have a bath together now but I find it gross as an adult!
ReplyDeleteI don't really understand if the people who are creeped out by it are being seriours or overly precious? How dirty are you exactly when you get in the bath? I understand some people sdo very physical jobs but these days most of us sit at a desk then drive home to sit on a settee we're not dirty.
ReplyDeleteI can't see sharing bath water with someone you love and know as any more "gross" than sharing bed sheets without washing them every single day.
I do share sometimes, but I have to go first because I like my baths roasting hot. I would go in after someone else if they hadn't done any shaving and the water was hot enough.

ReplyDeleteWe do share sometimes but I have to go first because I have my baths roasting hot. I would go in after someone but only if they hadn't washed their hair or shaved anything and the water was hot enough.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you changed the options so I can comment again, I'm not websavy and thought I was banned or did something bad.
ReplyDeleteI share bath water and I also got in with my nippers when they were at home. I don't see the problem?
The leaving the bathwater in the bath is something I've never heard before so I will be trying that next time I have a bath.
Thx Mrs T!
xoxo
I'm pretty much an anti-bath person, I have OCD about it as I have to scrub the tub absolutely spotlessly clean before I get in because its the thought of someone else being sat in it that creeps me out. I can't really explain why I'm so grossed out I just really can't deal with it!
ReplyDeleteI shower with my husband all the time though and on the rare occasions I do have a bath I will get in after a family member because its something we've done forever (there's a pretty infamous picture in our family that my mam gets out to embarrass us of 5 of us in the tub!)
I don't mind the thought of sharing baths. However, on a pure thrift and long term comfort level you're onto a loser if althete's foot is also shared (I've been the lucky recipient a couple of times :-P)
ReplyDeleteHi - I LOVE baths! It drives my husband mad that I've passed this on to our boys - so un-environmentally friendy and costly, too. So we've taken to having 'bath night' and getting in one after the other, which hubby now considers unhygenic (no pleasing some people) but which certainly uses less water, and also makes reluctant boys realise that there really is no way of getting out of washing...
ReplyDeleteNO
ReplyDeletejust read your tweet.
ReplyDeletefor me. it's going to be categoric no like wean.
i couldnt and i wouldnt x
Hubby and I always share a bath!
ReplyDeleteLike the others I share with hubby but only if I go first!
ReplyDeleteI have it scalding hot and usually have bath bombs and stuff and he gets in after me when it's cooled to a temp normal humans can suffer. I do have a brick in both of my cisterns to save water there and never notices any lack of flush performance ;0)
Kandi x
Yes, hubby and I have always shared too. :)
ReplyDeleteNot going to lie - I share showers regularly, but my Darling is slightly too big to share the bath with me :)
ReplyDeleteAnother pair of sharers here, although I always go in first ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe share baths and showers. It's quite a communal event these days with two young babies. I find it easier to wash my youngest when im in with her as she's so small and I don't get back ache that way. Otherwise, when it's mummy's bath night, the door is locked and I don't get out until the waters cold so no one will want it after me anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe are both nearly 6ft, so bath sharing doesn't occurr in our house very often. I always used to share a bath as a kid, and my youngest two brothers have only just stopped sharing. Maybe we just needa bigger tub?
ReplyDeleteHello Mrs Thrifty! When my Mum and I lived together, we'd always offer the other one our bathwater after we'd been in it, my boyfriend doesn't seem to mind that either. During the hosepipe ban in the 80's, my Mum rigged up a hosepipe from our bath through the window to our waterbutt in the back garden so all our bath water would be used on the garden (after it had been used by several people!) Sadly, now I live on my own it's a pain as the water pressure is so ridiculous at my house, not even a dribble comes out of the shower so I have to have baths, I find it a pain!
ReplyDeletei will have a bath with my little baby then sometimes my husband jumps in after we are finished bathing so three people would bath in the same water at one go,also i am using the bath soap water to mop the floor in our entire flat
ReplyDeleteThese are splendid ideas for bathing! My boyfriend and I shower together all the time, and have taken a bath together too. Added perk: he's a barber, so he willingly shaved my legs for me whilst we bathed. Score. The toilet flushing and plant watering is really brilliant though!
