How to Make a Two Tone Colour Block Clutch Bag

How to make a two tone clutch bag

Inspired by fashion house Céline, along with Victoria's fashion blog VIPXO I've been on a mission to hunt down a two tone clutch bag. Alas even the cheapest I could find were hugely over my budget so I set about making something similar myself.

How to make a two tone clutch bag

What you will need :
How to make a two tone clutch bag
- A zip up clutch or similar  - Finding even a plain, zip up clutch for under £20 seems an impossible task at the moment, so I settled on a long and large(ish), although not quite oversize, leather look pink pencil case from a stationery shop for little over a pound.
- Acrylic paint in a shade of your choice - I'm using Martha Stewart's Multi-Surface Acrylic Craft Paint in Pea Shoot. My cousin sent it over from the US as part of a craft hamper but I believe you can buy it on eBay or via a few different UK based online craft shops. Neons might be on trend at the moment but I need a little something in pastel for an upcoming wedding.
- Masking or parcel tape
- Paintbrush
- Newspaper
- Ruler
- Chalk
- Saucer for the paint
Make a clutch bag from a pencil case

Method :

1. Decide where you'd like the colour block to appear. Mark it off in a straight line with chalk and a ruler.
2. Smooth tape over that line making sure to cut a little extra in order to fold over the sides.
3. Fill the inside with a flat piece of newspaper to protect the underside.

4. Cover the surface you are working on with newspaper.
5. Paint on a light layer of paint. Allow to dry for an hour before adding another layer. Build up the layers until you get the required coverage.
6. Once fully dry remove the tape in one slow and smooth movement.

And there you go, you're able to take on the two tone, colour block clutch trend in full force - in the colours of your choice at a bargain price. I'm feeling grey and neon yellow for my next attempt. Which colours will you go for?

TTFN,

P.S. What do you think?

  1. I think it looks really good! I love the colours you went for. It would be great for those outfits that are hard to match you just choose your own colours that match.

    1. I picked up the pencil case in a small stationery shop - I think you're more likely to find them in independent and old fashioned shops than big chains.
I imagine you'll find similar on eBay too.
      Hope that helps!

  17. This makes me think I might have to explore the whole "pencil case as handbag" thing a bit more, it looks great! And I was just eying up that Martha Stewart paint the other day online, apparently you can paint your shoes with it and everything!
