Starting today, November 1st 2011, I will rid myself of 90 items in 30 days. These items will be sold, donated, given to friends or recycled. Either way they have to go. From big to small, come 30th November 2011, 90 items will be gone.

Brief guidelines
- Regular rubbish/trash doesn't count.- If you put something aside to be donated it must be out of your house by the last day of the month.
- Shred any paperwork in order to combat identity thief.
- Spend a max of 30 mins a day decluttering, you don't want to become bogged down by it.
A few basic areas in which to declutter
- Tupperware cupboard. How many clippity, mini cracker sized boxes do you really need?- Music and film collection. Will you really watch that rubbish rom-com again?
- Shoe collection. Do you really wear all of them?
- Photos. Come on, who wants to look at a photo of your thumb?
- Linen cupboard. Do you use everything in here? Are you likely to use all of it in the next 6 months?
- Medicine cabinet. Now really, when did you last need that amoxicillin?
- Paperwork and notes. Who needs to keep their undergraduate notes? And do you really need that utility bill from 1994?
- Utensils. 6 fish slices? Seriously?
Feel free to join the 30 Day Declutter and streamline your home, your mind and your life. I'll be posting my purged items every Friday, I'd love you to keep track of my progress or even join in (be it the same challenge, bigger or smaller.) Are you up to the challenge?
If you're on Twitter use the hashtag #30DayDeclutter to let us know how you're getting on and to follow the progress of me and others. Good luck!
TTFN,
P.S. I know, right?
P.S. Are you looking forward to Guy Fawkes night? I've put together a list of the best free fireworks displays and bonfires for 2011.

Yes! This chimes in perfectly with something I've been wanting to do. Thanks for helping to motivate me!
ReplyDeleteYes - medicines should be returned to the pharmacy for disposal - any unused prescriptions should always be disposed of in that way!
ReplyDeleteIt's all so true!
ReplyDeleteI am starting the push, by decorating a room at a time and (trying) to keep it clutter free!!!
Good luck!
Ha I seem to spend my life decluttering, although lately I've started seeing an definite difference in my living space, yay! I'll be joining in tho, moving to a much smaller place after Xmas so I really gotta seriously GET RID! Btw I totally love your shoes in last post :)
ReplyDeleteYou and me both. I'm having a right good pre-christmas, pre-baby clear out.
ReplyDeleteFreecycle and ebay have been very very useful for this, and surprisingly the more I give away, the more I FIND to give away. It's very enjoyable :) x
I spend half my time thinking about decluttering my room, it's getting ridiculous when you have walking holes in the sea of clothes and paper :( xxx
ReplyDeleteI love a good de-clutter. Look forward to seeing how you get on. And I shall definitely be joining in!
ReplyDeleteYup, started this already in preparation for moving house - lots more to be done though, so shall be keeping an eye on this.
ReplyDeleteOoH! I like this one, I would seriously struggle to get rid of 90 things, Alot of my clutter is crafting stuff that I ineveitably find myself going out and re-buying when I have just got rid of it.
ReplyDeletePassed this link on to my friend the serious hoarder, we can only try.
I think this is a marvellous idea, and as a hoarder, there's definitely lots of stuff that I can be getting rid of..but I think I might have to do a major declutter next month because right now my brain is too full of 'did I just agree to write 50,000 words in one month?'
ReplyDeleteGetting ready to move, so we are de-cluttering big time too. I know lots of folks think it's best to sell your stuff, but that takes away time from clearing it out!
ReplyDeleteWith so much stuff gone downstairs in our house now, all I need to do each day is sweep!
My Support Worker will tell me this is such a GOOD IDEA!
ReplyDeleteMe? Oh, I only have 3 fish slices I'm afraid!
Those kitty pumps in your previous post are almost too cute for words!
Z xx
What a fab idea! I really need to de-clutter. Living in a one bed does not offer that much room at all!
ReplyDeleteI shall follow your tips and start getting rid (ready for new Xmas junk!!!)
I love it. I'm big on decluttering at the moment, but won't be joining in, as this would require me to keep count, which is just something else to add to my list of things to do - when I could actually be doing more decluttering!
ReplyDeleteThink I should join in this, though as Louise said, a lot of this clutter is craft stuff - just need to organise it
ReplyDeleteNo way, I like and enjoy my clutter! Besides I like to counteract any control freakish activity with inactivity, thereby strangely leaving ME in control rather than than the compulsion, which is something that given a free reign could lead to obsesive tendancies.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you make perfect sense! I am in because I have so much to sort out and I'd like it done by the start of the new year.x
ReplyDeleteOMG, I need to do this too. You've inspired me..!!! xx
ReplyDeleteI am doing this too, but clearing and ebaying the toys to make some money for Christmas
ReplyDeletewell I managed to join in without even trying yesterday, I sorted out my airing cupboard and ditched anything no longer used.
ReplyDeleteI'll certainly join in. Even if it's one thing a day, then it's progress.
ta for the inspiration!
What a great idea. Photos are a big one for me - I have a whole box full, not to mention some potential 'digital de-cluttering' to sort through the thousands on the computer.
ReplyDeleteYeah - perfect pre-christmas tidying time - count me in! Always have a major toy declutter this time of year to allow space for new pressies! Told my kids that by donating them to a charity shop before xmas, it means that someone else who is less fortunate may get them for xmas so a win-win all round.
ReplyDeleteAs for the fish slices, I only had ONE and I broke it last week 'decluttering' my chest freezer (which had about 3 layers of ice around it - think the seal may have broke!).
Oh count me in. Got loads I need to sort out. Will keep a track on my blog as well.
ReplyDelete~c~
Perfect, I kind of started my declutter yesterday and will continue throughout the month (and demand hubby and lil missy do as well)
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent idea! I am a bit of a hoarder, (a frugal one mind) and I know a man with 87 shirts...
ReplyDeleteooh, I do like a good clear-out. And this sounds like a challenge! Count me in, 3 items a day, how hard can that be??.....I guess we're all about to find out!
ReplyDeleteJust what I need to motivate me! I think I'll feel more inclined to do it if I know others are doing it too...looking forward to your updates!

ReplyDeletejudging on your post, you already have some problems.
OH god, but if I throw out those clippity tupperware thingies I just know I'm going to need them!
ReplyDeleteHave been wanting/needing to declutter so will do my best. But am still opshopping so there lol
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I'm moving house in February and really want to take as little unnecessary stuff with me as possible to make it less of a pain.
ReplyDeleteOh dear yes - long overdue in my house!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, I'm in! THanks for the challenge.
ReplyDeletejust the push i needed! i'm in too x
ReplyDeleteI'm always decluttering a bit, but the work is never finished, so why not? I'll declutter at least one thing a day.
ReplyDeleteMy first ones: a mini-lipstick sample I rarely use and a pair of OLDDD panties I was keeping because I liked the pansy print, LOL :D
Raffaella
This is a great idea. I may join you.
ReplyDeleteX x
this is just awesome, if my mum and I hadn't been having massive downsizing sessions all summer, I'd be on this!
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to seeing how you get on, but a warning- throwing stuff out is seriously addictive!
I love that idea for organising tops! I usually stack mine but then obviously you can't see what's underneath. Why didn't I think of this before?!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a brilliant idea!! I'm going to do it and post about everything I've rid myself of :D x
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit late to this party but count me in, I wanted to do a little bit of decluttering this month anyway. Already started by bringing a boring notebook that'll never get used into work where it WILL get used - hurrah! 1/90 :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good idea! Ok, I'lll try to do it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is motivating. Thought I'd just try for one a day, but I'm managing to do the three. It's a nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteI am soooo in. Don't know if I can do 90 items but I can do at least 30 probably more. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI started today - out went all my old love letters and cards from ex boyfriends! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the same as you - I cleared LOADS before I moved and still have too much stuff......
Good luck.
I started yesterday, here is a link to my haul http://thedandybohemian.blogspot.com/2011/11/30-day-de-clutter_11.html
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! :)
I'd started...and then saw the link on Floss's blog, so this is very timely! Will pop a link on my blog as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy de-clutter mission started a couple of weeks ago and was just starting to lose momentum. This came in the nick of time! I'll be linking right back at ya!
ReplyDeletex
